With the original, and best-selling Hellfire release in 2016 we packed everything we knew about making a good muzzle brake into one design. Now, years later, we went back to the drawing board with a deeper understanding of what a brake can and should do, and how it can make a rifle as manageable as possible as the bullet exits.
Introducing the Hellfire Match.
This 4-port design isn’t simply stacking more of the same design on the end, it’s a complete redesign with each port being different. Different length ports, different angle ports, and different height port optimizes each one to provide an ideal function based on the pressure and volume of gas being acted on at its position. This results in optimal recoil management, optimal muzzle rise control, and imparts no extra sound pressure at the shooter position.
Using our patented Hellfire Self-Timing system, this brake uses the same Hellfire Universal Adapters that have been in our lineup for years, and can integrate with your Suppressor Mounts, Hellfire, Hellfire 2P and Linear Flash Suppressor. While this will be the new flagship brake, it is very much a part of our super popular Hellfire family.
Caliber Selection
In order to simplify the choices, we have four caliber selections available for the HELLFIRE brake. The difference in efficiency between using a caliber specific brake bore, and the next size up is so minimal if not non existent that we decided to simplify things in order to lower overall costs to you the consumer. As you can imagine, trying to stock the exact quantities required of six or so different calibers would be impossible.
223/6mm – Good for any bullet caliber up to and including 0.243 (6mm), ie 223, 5.56 NATO, 204, 17 cal, etc
6.5mm – Good for any bullet caliber up to and including 0.264 (6.5mm), ie 257, (Magnums OK)
7mm/308 – Good for any bullet caliber up to and including 0.308, ie 7mm, 284, 270, (Magnums OK)
Notable Features
– Extremely easy installation, brake WILL NOT turn as you torque the collar to lock. No more guessing where the brake ports will line up once you tighten it down!
– Simple round knurled nut that requires no tools to time the brake.
– Return to zero is excellent. This means removal of your brake and re-installation will not require a zero change.

– Simply torque the universal adapter onto your barrel with a 5/8″ wrench, this piece never has to come off. Next, LEFT HAND thread the brake/collar assembly onto the adapter until it is almost snug. Now rotate the brake until it is level, push the brake into the adapter and you will feel it lock onto the taper. Now tighten the collar fully by hand, and you are done!
Maintenance
Maintenance on any muzzle brake is essential. Just like your barrel, muzzle brakes need cleaned. Over time carbon will build up in the ports, mainly the last port as the first two are semi-self cleaning from the muzzle blast. When this carbon builds up, it will eventually get to the point that bullets can actually strike it. Depending on your shooting regimen you may not notice this, you might just call it a flier. But in a competition when you need every round to impact, this is critical. Carbon bullet strikes are a worst case scenario, but the buildup can also cause accuracy or POI issues just due to airflow changes in the brake ports.
NOTE: The use of Lemishine (or any citric-acid cleaner) or CLR to clean your brake will likely discolor the black nitride, and will void the lifetime warranty of your product. Don’t do this. Seriously. It’ll turn pink and you’ll feel like an idiot.
- The best cleaning method for any muzzle brake is PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. If you clean the brake every time you clean the barrel (200-400 round intervals, shorter for 6mm rounds) it will make your life much much easier. With that being said, just soak the brake in a carbon cleaner like Boretech C4 and all the carbon should come right out, especially if you have a Black Nitride brake. Raw stainless brakes can be more challenging to clean because the surface is more porous. If necessary, you can use any kind of cleaning brush to aid in the removal of carbon from the ports. Black Nitride is harder than any material they attach to a brush, so you will not scratch the surface. Raw stainless may scratch if you use a stainless or other harder bristle brush.
- If you decide to wait until 1000 rounds or more, you will have a lot of carbon buildup in the 2nd and 3rd port which will take some effort to remove. Best method here is probably to soak for a day or two in C4 and use a pick to get the big chunks out. Then follow the above method to get the remainder off.
- You should also clean your Universal Adapter with the same care. Every time you clean your barrel, let the carbon cleaner from patching the barrel soak on the muzzle for a few minutes and use a q-tip to wipe any carbon from the barrel crown and inside the end of the adapter. Soak a patch in carbon cleaner and wipe the taper surface of the adapter off. If there is persistent carbon on the surface, use steel wool to remove, it will not damage the surface.
- Brakes should not be placed in a wet tumbler, specifically not one with pins or media of any sort. The small pins can work their way into the collar/retaining ring area, and this is likely to compromise the integrity of the retention device in the brake. Foreign material here can result in the brake becoming a projectile. This is not safe, and will void the product warranty.

Been running one of these in 6mm for competitions for a couple seasons and tried something simpler and cheaper for larger calibers before retiring them and getting a 30 cal Hellfire Match. The other ones were either less effective or kicked enough concussion back into my face to be distracting. The Hellfire is the perfect combination of superb recoil reduction and limited blast to the shooter. It’s still as obnoxious as any other brake to anyone not directly behind the rifle (and will clean shooting benches two spots away) but to the shooter the recoil reduction feels “free”. Add in the taper mount that makes clocking trivial and has perfect return to zero (convenient when cleaning after every match) and I’ll not choose anything else going forward.

Insane difference! My son and I are avid hunters and plink around the backyard throughout the year. We have friends that are neighbors to the company, and have watched them and their videos/posts over the last couple of years. This muzzle break is a work of art. I put this on a Ruger RPR 6.5 Creedmoor. My oem break was a nightmare to take off and adjust. I needed to use a big steel bar to get the thing to spin. The Area 419 unit uses a knurled hand tightened collar that doesn’t need tools. What a great idea! Once the break was on the gun it was just a matter of sight adjustments (by hand) to set it in a perfectly clocked orientation to send the gasses at 90 degree angles to the gun. So much easier than the oem break.
Well worth the cost. And it looks awesome in stainless.

Great product, great design. Works great. Got mine in stainless so I could soak it in CLR for cleaning. Make sure your threaded muzzle is .600 but not longer or you will need to have it cut back and re-crowned. The muzzle adapter piece is made for exactly .600.

I now have 2 Hellfire and 1 Hellfire match brakes. I purchased the Match for a 300 PRC that I am building but haven’t completed the build to test it on, so I tested on my 7 SAUM side by side with my regular Hellfire that I shoot on this rifle regularly.
There wasn’t a lot of noticeable recoil reduction but there was a lot less rifle upset! Meaning that I never lost my sight picture. I’m sure when the 300 PRC build is completed in early 2023 there will be a very noticeable recoil reduction.

Purchased the 30cal version for a lighter weight .308 build intended for hunting, team matches, and NRL Hunter. Really flattens the recoil. Keeping POA on plate (IPSC) at 600yds with 155gr bullets and less than 2mil off plate with 175gr bullets. Both loads fairly warm. Keep in mind this is a 14.5lb setup, not a 20lb+ PRS rig. Super happy with the performance. Will be getting another in 6.5mm for my 25x47L and .257 RobAI.

I am giving the muzzle brake a rating of 5/5 at this time however I have not shot the rifle with it as of yet. What really turned me on to it is the engineering not only within the brake but also within the attachment fitting. The method of attachment is simple, absolutely solid, and allows the brake to be easily tuned or removed for quick cleaning and reassembly. If I want to transfer the brake to another rifle, I can do it at the cost of purchasing another attachment lug for that other rifle which saves me a ton of money.
Don’t be fooled by other brakes that report loosening over time or by product marketing teams that suggests you need to glue the actual brake to the barrel. That seems ridiculous to me, and it’s a sign that those organizations need to redesign their products.
The 419 brake is clearly engineered better then anything else that I reviewed and the purchase was a no brainer for me. Now all I need to do is to see how it performs at the range.

Swapped Hellfire Match over to the Bolt action and compared the Hellfire to the Hellfire Match and liked the Match a bit more ,,,, then purchased another Match. Yeah you might think expensive but not really because you definitely get what you pay for. I put one on my Howa 6.5 Creedmoor and now it’s like I’m shooting a 22 LR. Seriously so I then put one on my Seekins 308 and now it’s like shooting a 223 that’s not over gassed. I’m very happy with Area 419 brakes. Their brakes highly reduce recoil without blowing it all in your face. Again I highly recommend..

Looks great, I just wish it was DLC coated and had a flat milled onto the top so I could time it perfectly. I haven’t used it yet and am keen to see how it performs against my Terminator TT brakes. They have flats milled top and bottom (so timing is easy) and are painted in KG Gunkote (so you can throw them in CLR and they don’t turn pink).
They also have more aggressive port angles and therefore do an amazing job of reducing recoil.
If the Hellfire match is not as good as the Terminator TT, I’ll update my review and go back to the Terminator.
Whilst I like companies that produce great gear and have great customer service, I always base my choices in performance. I read forums but will buy everything I can afford and test it for myself. If it works, it stays. If it doesn’t work, it gets sold, donated or filed in the ‘round filing cabinet’ (bin).
So we will see if the Hellfire match lives up to my expectations. The lack of a flat for timing and the lack of a coating that is impervious to CLR does bug me though.
